About Angela Buckley, M.A., B.A. Mus. (Hons.)
Hi there! My name is Angela and I’m a Musicologist and Music teacher in Waterford, Ireland. Since graduating from college in 2001, I’ve been teaching Music in one form or another and teaching Piano has always been the main focus of my career.
What is my teaching style?
My teaching style is fun, creative, and very student-centered. I like to tailor lessons to each individual student. Methods include: off-bench activities, manipulative games, pattern play, improvisation, composition, chord play, and I use a number of the most up-to-date, pedagogically-sound method books.
What are some of the best parts of being a Music teacher?
There are so many things! I love hearing stories from parents about how students are getting on at home. One time a parent asked me ‘how much longer will X be playing the James Bond theme’ because every time he passes the piano he is playing it – to me that means I’ve found a way in with that student.
Students composing their own music and being excited for me to hear it.
Teaching chords and pattern play are very valuable teaching tools. Students love playing their favourite songs and it’s a huge opportunity for me to really work on music concepts.
